The key to successful homeschooling:
Limit the parts of the house where your puppy can stay (such as the kitchen). Stick to the strictest rules; homeschooling will be more comfortable when you set up feeding mode.
A puppy will usually be relieved within 20-30 minutes after meals.
Choose a place to the toilet and train your puppy. Dogs like to relieve themselves in one place.
At home, the Husky puppy quickly gets used to the toilet tray. Instruct him to use the toilet outdoors, take him to the same place and reward him when he urinates and defecates in the same place.
Don't play with him in the bathroom, or he won't understand the purpose of the visit.
Acknowledge the signs. When the puppy starts sniffing the floor, crossing the door or running randomly, bring the Husky to the place you've set up for the toilet. If he doesn't show any signs of relief within minutes, take him away and try again after a few minutes.
Please note: the time in hours your puppy is comfortable without relief is equal to his age in months + 1.
Always praise your puppy when he's relieved in the right place. Use unique words to associate these words with an act of relief. Gently praise him after the treatment and take him away immediately.
Take your puppy out just before bed and immediately after waking up in the morning. As soon as you get up in the morning, take your puppy out to his intended place. After a long night, he needs it! To avoid 'accidents' at night, do not feed him before bedtime.
Some other situations where he might need to go to the toilet are after a short nap, after playing and after drinking. Be prepared to take him out and encourage a successful toilet attempt.
Be patient! Don't punish your puppy if a 'fact happened' at the wrong time and place, especially if you didn't catch him during the event. He won't understand. If this happens often, he may not know what you want, or he's having medical problems.
If you're concerned, talk to your vet.
The smell of a puppy is much sharper than yours. If you don't eliminate the scent, your puppy will return to this place next time. Typical air fresheners eliminate the smell for the human nose but not the dogs.
Most pet stores have special odour neutralizers for pets. They are more productive!
Consult with your breeder. He knows Husky's parents, their heredity, habits, medical information. He can give you practical advice on your progress in puppy training.
